What does a wedding planner actually do?
One of the biggest misconceptions couples have when planning a wedding is not fully understanding what a wedding planner actually does.
And honestly, I understand why.
There are so many different titles throughout the wedding industry, from wedding planners and stylists to venue coordinators, and it can sometimes be difficult to understand who is responsible for what.
But each role is actually very different.
So, what does a wedding planner actually do?
Quite a lot.
And most of it happens long before your wedding day.
THINK OF US AS THE PERSON WHO CONNECTS ALL THE MOVING PIECES
Planning a wedding isn't simply about booking suppliers.
It's about bringing together dozens of decisions, timelines, people and logistics in a way that feels effortless.
Because by the time your wedding day arrives, there can be a lot happening behind the scenes.
Venues.
Photographers.
Florists.
Musicians.
Caterers.
Transport providers.
Accommodation.
The list goes on.
My role is to ensure everything is working together seamlessly.
A WEDDING PLANNER HELPS YOU MAKE DECISIONS
One of the biggest misconceptions is that wedding planners take over and make all the decisions for you.
It's actually the opposite.
My role is to guide you through the decisions so they feel easier to make.
Rather than spending hours researching suppliers, comparing options and second-guessing yourself, you have someone who can narrow things down, provide recommendations and point you in the right direction.
WE HELP YOU BUILD YOUR DREAM TEAM
One of the biggest benefits of working with a local Byron Bay planner is having access to trusted suppliers.
I know who works well together.
I know which suppliers suit different personalities, budgets and wedding styles.
And I know who consistently delivers an incredible experience.
This saves you countless hours of research and gives you confidence that every supplier is aligned with the overall vision for your day.
WE THINK ABOUT THE THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW TO THINK ABOUT
Because after 14 years of planning weddings throughout Byron Bay and the hinterland, I've learned that it's often the details behind the scenes that make the biggest difference.
Things like:
Venue requirements and restrictions
Supplier recommendations and compatibility
Guest experience and overall flow
Ceremony and reception logistics
Furniture layouts and styling decisions
Transport and accommodation considerations
Council requirements and venue guidelines
Timeline creation and supplier management
These details may seem small individually, but together they're what make a wedding feel effortless.
SO, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PLANNER, STYLIST AND VENUE COORDINATOR?
A planner guides and manages the entire planning process from beginning to end.
A stylist focuses on the visual design and overall aesthetic.
Many Byron Bay venues also provide an on-site venue coordinator, however their role is often to manage the venue itself rather than the overall wedding planning process.
They are there to oversee in-house operations, venue staff and ensure the venue is delivering its component of the day successfully.
They aren't typically responsible for managing your external suppliers, creating timelines, coordinating guest logistics, overseeing transport schedules or bringing every moving piece together.
That's where a wedding planner comes in.
We sit above all of those moving pieces and ensure everything is working together seamlessly from beginning to end.
THE TAKEAWAY
The role of a wedding planner isn't to take control of your wedding.
It's to simplify the experience, remove the guesswork and give you confidence that every decision you're making is moving you closer to the day you're envisioning.
Because planning a Byron Bay wedding is about so much more than one day.
It's about creating an experience for yourselves and your guests, and having someone alongside you who knows how to bring it all together.
